QX200™ Droplet Digital PCR System

The QX200 Droplet Digital PCR system is Bio-Rad’s second-generation ddPCR system. It allows absolute quantification of target DNA or RNA molecules for EvaGreen or probe-based digital PCR applications.

The QX200 droplet generator is used to partition ddPCR reaction mix into 20,000 nanoliter-sized droplets. After PCR on a thermal cycler, droplets from each sample are analyzed individually on the QX200 droplet reader. Droplets pass by a two-color optical detection system in a serial manner. The PCR-positive and PCR-negative droplets are counted to provide absolute quantification of target DNA in digital form. Alternatively, amplified products can be extracted from droplets following PCR for downstream applications, such as sequencing or cloning. Up to 96 samples can be processed per run.

RNA Isolation

Aurum™ Total RNA Mini Kit

The Aurum total RNA mini kit produces high-quality DNA-free total RNA from a wide range of starting materials, including cultured cells, bacteria, and yeast, as well as animal and plant tissues. The kit utilizes a stringent reagent composed of guanidine isothiocyanate and β-mercaptoethanol for efficient sample lysis and quick RNase inactivation, followed by purification on silica membrane in a spin-column format using a spin- or vacuum-mediated protocol. The entire purification process, including DNase I digest, is completed in less than 60 minutes. Isolated RNA is of the highest integrity and is suitable for the most discriminating applications. The Aurum total RNA mini kit can also be used for RNA cleanup and desalting.

PureZOL™ RNA Isolation Reagent

The ready-to-use PureZOL RNA isolation reagent is a versatile and efficient means of isolating high yields of RNA from a variety of sources, including cultured cell, animal and plant tissue, yeast, virus, and bacteria samples. The protocol is an improvement over the rapid, widely used, and proven method of RNA isolation developed by Chomczynski and Sacchi (1987). PureZOL RNA isolation reagent is a potent monophasic combination of phenol and the chaotropic agent guanidine isothiocyanate, which effectively lyses cells and tissues, deproteinates RNA, and inactivates endogenous nucleases in a single step. The single-solution format permits recovery of RNA from small quantities of tissues or cells, making it ideally suited for gene expression studies or whenever available sample quantities are limited. Protocols are scalable to accommodate a wide range of sample sizes. DNA and protein that are efficiently removed from the RNA following phase separation can be subsequently extracted from the same sample origin.

InstaGene matrix, made with a specially formulated 6% w/v Chelex® resin, makes DNA sample preparation fast, easy, and cost-effective, providing PCR-quality template DNA in less than an hour. The Chelex matrix binds to PCR inhibitors rather than DNA, preventing DNA loss due to irreversible DNA binding. The InstaGene matrix eliminates the time-consuming and labor-intensive deproteinization, organic extraction, dialysis, and alcohol precipitation protocols required in traditional DNA purification procedures. Place the cells in a microcentrifuge tube, add the InstaGene matrix, boil, and spin. The matrix adsorbs cell lysis products that interfere with the PCR amplification process. DNA in the supernatant is ready for PCR.

The Experion automated electrophoresis station performs all the steps of gel-based electrophoresis in one compact, durable unit.
