Corbett Life Science manages a group of biotechnology companies that design, manufacture and internationally distribute instrumentation systems for the life sciences. Since 1988, we have earned a reputation for innovative, versatile, robust, and easy-to-use products that generate strong customer loyalty. Besides real-time analyzers, our instrument range includes low-cost automated nucleic acid extraction and compact high-precision robots to set up real-time reactions for you. Designed to integrate, our systems can take you from “extraction to reaction”.

Rotor-Gene™ Real-time Analyzer

The Rotor-Gene is world’s most precise and versatile real-time analyzer. It uses a unique centrifugal rotary design in which all samples spin continuously at high speed past a common optical detector. This arrangement imparts performance characteristics that far exceed a conventional real-time instrument. For example, it removes any “positional effects” so that well-to-well thermal uniformity (precision) is ±0.01°C; about fifty times better than a typical block-based real-time instrument. Optical variation is similarly precise because the identical optical path reaches all tubes. This precision makes exciting new applications like HRM (high resolution melt) practical and opens the door to many other innovative possibilities for real-time thermo-optical analysis.

The Rotor-Gene is also very robust and convenient; re-calibration is virtually unheard of, there is no block to clean (because tubes hang in mid-air) and sample liquid is continuously spun-down in each tube. You can change well format by simply swapping a rotor (there are four to choose from with between 36- and 100-wells capacity each). There are many other unique benefits such as up to 6 separate optical channels spanning infra-red to ultra-violet. The LED excitation lights do not fade or burn out (like halogen or xenon arc lamps) and have a lifetime guarantee.

Thinking outside the block can have huge benefits. What could you do with Rotor-Gene performance?

Precision HRM (High Resolution Melt)

HRM is like traditional DNA melting analysis but with much higher data quality (in terms of both data precision and resolution). This, combined with new data analysis methods, reveals more information from each melt than previously possible.

HRM can replace many existing assays that require custom labeled TaqMan® or FRET probes (e.g. SNP genotyping) but also works for demanding new applications such as mutation discovery (i.e. gene scanning), sequence matching (e.g. strain identification and HLA typing), methylation studies, quantitative allelotyping ,etc.

To practice HRM, we offer a specially configured Rotor-Gene equipped with a separate optical subsystem, supporting electronics, and HRM analysis software. HRM precision is ±0.01°C (as well-to-well uniformity), providing a resolution of 0.02°C. Data collection rate is 20 reads averaged and reported per 0.02°C thermal increment (=1000 reads/°C). This makes the Rotor-Gene the most precise HRM analyzer yet developed. It can, for example, reliably genotype Class 4 SNP (A>T) homozygotes where other HRM instruments simply cannot.

HRM has created many exciting new opportunities for genetic analysis, but to experience the potential of genuine high-precision HRM ask for a Rotor-Gene demonstration.

CAS-1200™ PCR Setup Robot

Finally, a low-cost robot that can match or exceed even the best hand-pipetted qPCR setup is available; the CAS-1200™.

The CAS-1200™ is the only pipetting robot specifically developed for qPCR setup and the only one compatible with any real-time instrument. All qPCR tube formats and plate types are supported, including capillaries. It easily interfaces with upstream sample-prep systems such the Corbett X-tractor-Gene™, Roche MagNA Pure®, QIAGEN BioRobot M48® Workstation, and others.

Compared to any other system, the CAS-1200™ is more versatile, easier to use, more compact, and more affordable to own and operate. Experience the benefits of automation no matter what qPCR or sample purification system you already own. Features include:
  • use pre-made or robot-assembled master mixes
  • automatic normalization of DNA/RNA concentration
  • preparation of standards by custom dilution series
  • real-time liquid level sensing and tip re-use options

CAS-4800™ 8-Channel Pipetting Robot

The CAS-4800™ robotic liquid handling workstation is similar to the CAS-4200™ robot but with an 8-channel pipetting head. It was designed for large-scale repetitive plate-based applications (96- or 384-well). Its many uses include plate duplication, sample pooling, setup of parallel PCRs or sequencing reactions, etc. Like all our CAS series robotic platforms, it is characterized by application versatility and easy-to-use software.

X-tractor Gene™ Nucleic Acid Extraction

The X-tractor Gene is a compact and affordable robotic workstation that extracts and purifies nucleic acids 8- to 96-samples at a time. The X-tractor Gene is an open platform that can use a wide range of 3rd-party kits as well as our own new DX DNA extraction chemistry.

We are releasing a new range of application kits for the X-tractor Gene, the fitrst of which is our DX DNA extraction kit . The DX kit includes everything you need, including tips and ethanol. It is also substantially less costly than competitor kits, and uses universal chemistry, meaning a DX kit will work for virtually any sample type (including solid tissue, liquid samples, plants, bacteria, fungi etc) so you no longer need to order a different kit for every sample type!

Once samples are introduced to the system, standard processing is continuous, which means there is no user-intervention required. Eluted product is pure, high molecular weight, and suitable for the most demanding downstream applications.

As stated, many other commercial kits can be used with the X-tractor Gene, including kits from Qiagen, Machery-Nagel, Promega, Invitek, Invitrogen, Ambion, Axygen etc. These kits cover diverse applications including DNA isolation, RNA isolation, virus extraction, post-PCR cleanup etc.
